About Me

Hello!  I’m Zoe Norvell and I’m a book cover designer, book interior designer, and the founder of INeedABookCover.com.

I began my professional career in 2011 in New York City, working as a cover designer at Simon & Schuster—my first job after graduating from art school. A few years later, I moved over to Penguin. In 2015, I went freelance and have been running my own studio ever since. If you’re interested in learning more about the beginning phases of my career, I open up about it in my Cover Meeting Podcast episode.

In 2022, after I’d begun offering book interior services to certain clients, I launched the website INeedABookInterior.com. I launched this platform to simplify the layout process for book interiors and to provide clear answers to common questions that I would often receive from first-time publishers.

Running INABI and seeing how much visitors learned from it inspired me to launch another platform I had long wanted to create. In January 2023, I introduced INeedABookCover (INABC) to the world. I was motivated to build this platform because, at the time, there was no single place online where talented book cover designers from around the globe were listed together. If you didn’t work in the industry, you had no way of knowing the names of all these talented folks! I wanted to change that. INABC is a centralized resource for discovering excellent cover designers all in one place.

INABC began as a “simple” gallery of book covers and a directory of my peers. Since 2023, it has since grown substantially. Today, we publish a blog with articles aimed at first-time publishers to help demystify the cover design process. We also host a Jobs Board where clients post real Creative Briefs and are contacted by vetted, professional cover designers—greatly accelerating the process of connecting authors with the right designer.

A central goal of INABC is to promote fair fees for top-tier designers creating bespoke work, and to match them with publishers and authors who value and understand the importance of professional cover design. We advance this mission by educating first-timers about pricing standards within the industry, something that used to be murky and impossible to know. If you haven’t visited INABC yet, head on over today!
